TPSODL expands power infrastructure in Koraput, lighting up Odisha’s tribal heartland

Berhampur(29/08/2025): TP Power Southern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPSODL) is strengthening the electricity network in Koraput district through extensive infrastructure development, network augmentation and modernisation of power systems.
The initiatives are designed to ensure reliable, safe and future-ready electricity supply to households, institutions and industries across the district. Nestled in the Eastern Ghats, Koraput is known for its scenic hills, valleys and rich cultural heritage.
The district is home to vibrant tribal communities including the Paraja, Gadaba, Kondh, Bonda and other Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs), whose traditions and lifestyles form an integral part of Odisha’s identity.
With expanding townships, industrial activity around Sunabeda and flourishing rural settlements, the demand for electricity has been steadily rising.
TPSODL’s ongoing projects are ensuring that this demand is met with stable and quality power. A major focus has been on upgrading power substations and strengthening the distribution network.
Substations at Pottangi and Lamtaput have been reinforced with additional capacity, while the Koraput Old Power Sub-Station has seen its transformer capacity enhanced from 3.15 MVA to 8 MVA.
These developments secure electricity supply for urban clusters as well as industrial establishments.
New 33 KV lines have been laid to improve connectivity, linking key stretches including the Sunabeda Police Station corridor to Belaiguda, along with upgrades to existing lines across Kundra, Kusumi, Nuagaon, Pottangi, Kunduli, Narayanpatna and Sunabeda. The distribution system is also witnessing expansion at the grassroots level.
New 11 KV lines have been commissioned in Janiguda, Semiliguda, Randapalli and adjoining areas, while feeders have been upgraded across Almunda, Bandhugaon, Kotpad, Lamptaput, Ranitota, Borigumma, Barniput and Sunabeda township.
These improvements are benefitting schools, healthcare centres, small enterprises and thousands of households, ensuring reliable power for everyday life and economic activity. Highlighting the importance of these initiatives, Amit Kumar Garg, CEO, TPSODL, said, “Koraput is a land of cultural richness and natural beauty, and it is our privilege to contribute to its growth by providing modern and reliable electricity.
Our infrastructure development and network augmentation projects are not only meeting the present demand but also preparing the district for the future.
By ensuring quality power, we are enabling opportunities in education, healthcare, entrepreneurship and industry for the people of Koraput.” The work in Koraput is part of TPSODL’s wider commitment to southern Odisha.
By building robust infrastructure, augmenting networks and modernising substations, TPSODL is creating a resilient grid that supports inclusive development and strengthens the region’s progress. With these initiatives, reliable electricity is illuminating homes, energising industries and empowering communities across Koraput, reinforcing the district’s role as a shining part of Odisha’s development journey.
