Darasing Khurana hosts heart-stirring Donor–Recipient Meet In Pune, calls for more blood stem cell donors
Bhubaneswar (01/09/2025): Actor, emcee, and philanthropist Darasing Khurana, Brand Ambassador for DATRI Blood Stem Cell Donors Registry, led an emotional donor–recipient meet organized by DATRI in collaboration with Sahyadri Hospital. The highlight was a rare reunion where twin sisters Shaurya and Aarya, both diagnosed with Acute Lymphoid Leukemia at three-and-a-half, met their lifesaving donor Meeneshwar of Hyderabad, who had donated his blood stem cells and “gave them a second chance at life.” Addressing attendees, Khurana saluted the resilience of the twins’ parents and urged more Indians to register as voluntary blood stem cell donors, noting that each new registration can be a potential match for a patient fighting a fatal blood disorder. His appeal aligns with his long-running advocacy as DATRI’s Brand Ambassador, a role publicly featured by the organization. The Sahyadri medical team, led by Dr.Kannan Subramanian with guidance from Dr.Shashikant Apte, performed the unique transplants and emphasized the critical need for expanding India’s donor base.“With every new donor, we increase the chance of saving lives,” said Dr.Subramanian. For the family, the meet was profoundly personal.“We could never imagine that one person’s selfless act would give us back our children,” the parents shared, thanking DATRI, Sahyadri Hospital, and the donor.Meeneshwar called the reunion “the most emotional moment” of his life. Since inception, DATRI has facilitated more than 1,645 blood stem cell donations and built a registry of over six lakh donors, underscoring the momentum behind such lifesaving matches.
