
NESTS and UNICEF launch TALASH for tribal students
Bhubaneswar(24/09/2025): The National Education Society for Tribal Students (NESTS), in collaboration with UNICEF India, has launched TALASH — Tribal Aptitude, Life Skills, and Self-Esteem Hub — a first-of-its-kind digital program exclusively for tribal students of Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRSs). The initiative, aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, aims to benefit over 1.38 lakh tribal students across the country by helping them identify their aptitudes through psychometric assessments, receive career guidance, and build vital life skills such as communication, problem-solving, and self-confidence. As part of the Odisha rollout, a three-day training program was organized in Bhubaneswar for 94 teachers representing 47 EMRSs.The sessions focused on career counselling, nurturing self-esteem and life skills, and developing individualized career cards for students.Teachers were also trained to effectively use TALASH tools to guide learners in choosing suitable academic and career pathways. The valedictory function was attended by Pranati Patro, Joint Director of OMTES and Deputy Secretary, SC & ST Development Department, Government of Odisha, as the chief guest.Praising NESTS for its initiative, she highlighted the importance of empowering tribal students for holistic growth and urged teachers to act as role models and mentors. Certificates were awarded to the participants, who pledged their commitment to implementing the TALASH program in their schools and supporting the future aspirations of tribal students.
