TATA Power Led Southern Odisha DISCOM powers up Nabarangpur’s growth
Berhampur(26/09/2025): TP Southern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPSODL), a joint venture of Tata Power and the Government of Odisha, has undertaken a series of major initiatives in Nabarangpur district to strengthen electricity infrastructure, improve supply quality, and support inclusive development across southern Odisha. These projects are part of a sustained programme to create a modern, resilient power distribution network that can meet the needs of households, farmers, institutions, and industries alike. Nabarangpur, known for its rich cultural traditions and agricultural potential, is one of the fastest growing districts in southern Odisha. With its emerging towns, expanding farmlands, and aspirations for industrial growth, the demand for reliable electricity has been steadily increasing.TPSODL has responded with a comprehensive set of initiatives to modernize substations, expand lines, and upgrade feeders, ensuring that electricity reaches every consumer with efficiency and consistency. Over the past year, several important works have been carried out across Nabarangpur. The long-standing issue of capacity constraints has been addressed through transformer augmentation. At Tandaguda, an additional transformer was installed to strengthen supply and build redundancy.Substations at Khatigada and Kosagumuda saw upgrades from 1.6 MVA to 3.15 MVA, while Jharigaon was enhanced from 3.15 MVA to 5 MVA.The main substation at Nabarangpur itself was upgraded from 5 MVA to 10 MVA, effectively doubling its capacity to serve growing residential, agricultural, and commercial demand. In addition, new Primary Substations (PSS) of 2X5 MVA capacity were established at Jodinga village in Raighar block, Dhodhra village in Jharigam block, and Dumurimunda village in Umerkote block. These new Power Sub-Stations are playing a crucial role in eliminating long-standing low voltage issues and are particularly benefitting the farming community by providing reliable power for irrigation during the Rabi season.Together, these steps ensure that the district now has ample capacity to meet both present and future needs. Alongside substation upgrades, significant progress has been made in line construction.New 33 KV lines have been built to extend reliable supply from the Nabarangpur Grid Substation to Papadahandi and other locations.Lines from Medhabeda to Chikalpadar and from Jharigaon to Pupugan have been added to cover more areas under dependable high-voltage supply. In addition, existing 33 KV links such as Kosagumuda to Kotpad and Behera to Raighar have been upgraded, creating a stronger backbone for the district’s distribution system. At the 11 KV level, fresh link lines were laid from Chutiaguda PSS to Nabarangpur-2, from Khatigada to Jaliaguda, and from Mendhabeda to Bharandi. These expansions have connected growing clusters directly into the network, ensuring improved voltage profiles and consistent power delivery.Several existing feeders including Town-1, Nabarangpur-2, Bharandi, Turudi, Gurusingha, and Debagaon were upgraded to modern standards, guaranteeing stable electricity for urban households, rural consumers, and public institutions. The impact of these developments is wide-ranging.Farmers in Nabarangpur, who depend heavily on irrigation, now benefit from reliable power supply that supports crop productivity and agricultural resilience.Schools, colleges, and healthcare institutions are drawing from steady electricity connections, enabling digital classrooms, laboratories, and modern medical facilities.Expanding urban areas and commercial establishments are receiving consistent power that supports business growth and community services.Together, these improvements—particularly the new PSS at Jodinga, Dhodhra, and Dumurimunda—are laying the foundation for long-term socio-economic development in the district. Commenting on the progress, Amit Kumar Garg, CEO of TPSODL, said, “Nabarangpur is a district with immense potential, driven by agriculture, growing towns, and the aspirations of its people.Reliable electricity is central to realizing that potential.Through the expansion of lines, augmentation of transformers, and upgradation of feeders, we are ensuring that power reaches every consumer with quality and reliability. The commissioning of new substations at Jodinga, Dhodhra, and Dumurimunda is a major step forward in addressing voltage challenges and enabling farmers to irrigate their fields during the crucial Rabi season. These initiatives will not only strengthen the district’s infrastructure but also support livelihoods, education, healthcare, and entrepreneurship. This is how TPSODL is working to energize communities and build a brighter future for Southern Odisha.” The strengthening of Nabarangpur’s electricity network represents more than just local progress; it aligns with India’s larger mission of ensuring energy security and equitable growth.By combining modern technology with regional investment, TPSODL is demonstrating how distribution infrastructure can act as a catalyst for overall development. These initiatives are creating opportunities for farmers, enabling businesses to grow, and empowering communities to participate fully in the modern economy. Nabarangpur now stands prepared to meet the demands of its evolving landscape with a power distribution system that is reliable, efficient, and inclusive.TPSODL remains committed to continuing this journey and ensuring that every household, farm, and enterprise in the district has access to electricity that powers progress and prosperity.
