
Odisha farmer shows the way in saving money and going green with Rooftop Solar under PM Surya Ghar Yojana
Bhubaneswar(05/10/2025): Bank of Baroda has transformed the lives of thousands of households in Odisha and across the country under PM Surya Ghar Yojana. To enhance customer convenience, the Bank has launched an end-to-end digital journey for loans up to Rs 2.00 lakh. The PM Surya Ghar Yojana, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is transforming lives across the country by making clean solar energy affordable and accessible.One such inspiring story comes from Nuapada district in Odisha, where a farmer and small business owner Rakesh Kumar Sahoo has seen his and his family’s life change after availing a Residential Rooftop Sol ar Loan from Bank of Baroda and installing the rooftop solar system at his home. Before installing the solar power system, Sahoo’s household electricity bills averaged between Rs 1,500–1,800 per month, a significant strain on his income.With the installation of rooftop solar under PM Surya Ghar Yojana, his monthly bill has now reduced significantly to around Rs 200/- only.Sharing his experience, Sahoo said that the scheme has transformed his family’s life, giving them peace of mind and almost free electricity.He said, “High electricity bills used to be a constant source of stress.Every month, a large part of my hard-earned income went into paying for basic appliances like lights, fans, and the refrigerator to run at home.This often meant compromising on other essentials, especially my children’s education.But thanks to the PM Surya Ghar Yojana scheme, our life has completely changed.After the installation of the rooftop solar system, our electricity bill has significantly reduced to around Rs 200 or even less.Today, we enjoy almost free electricity and, more importantly, peace of mind.” “Thanks to the support from the Government of India and Bank of Baroda, I’ve not only been able to drastically reduce my electricity bills, but I also plan to expand my shop using the savings.I am truly grateful for this empowering initiative,” added Sahoo.PM Surya Ghar Yojana, is bringing light and prosperity to millions of households across India.With a target of covering 1 crore homes, the scheme is a step towards energy self-reliance, green growth, and reduced dependence on fossil fuels.Under this scheme, the beneficiary is eligible for central subsidy up to Rs 78,000. Bank of Baroda is making commendable efforts to promote the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, ensuring that maximum citizens across India can benefit from this transformative scheme and contributing to the country's mission for a greener, more sustainable future.To enhance customer convenience, the Bank has recently launched an end-to-end digital journey for loans up to Rs 2.00 lakh at an attractive interest rate of just 6% per annum.This seamless digital and paperless process enables customers to apply, get sanction, and open loan accounts without visiting a branch, making it completely hassle-free.
