Police inspector arrested for raping woman cop

Bhubaneswar (22/10/2025): A police inspector was arrested on charges of sexually exploiting a woman Sub-Inspector (SI) on false promise of marriage.

The accused has been identified as Yoshabant Acharya, a 2017-batch police officer. He had been promoted to the rank of Inspector-in-Charge and posted in Kalahandi recently. Acharya had allegedly developed a relationship with the woman SI around 8 years ago.

He had visited her house and moved a marriage proposal.

The police inspector had kept physical intimacy with the woman for the first time during her posting at Kendrapara Town Police Station in 2018 on the assurance of marriage. Acharya was in live-in relationship with the woman SI for last 7 years.

He had been maintaining physical intimacy with the woman during her posting in Ganjam, Gajapati and Bhubaneswar.

Acharya reportedly forced the victim to go for an abortion after she was found pregnant. Meanwhile, the woman came to know that Acharya is a married person and he has a son.

Soon, the victim lodged a complaint in this regard at the Mahila Police Station in Bhubaneswar.

Basing on the complaint, he was arrested.
