
Abhijit Majumdar's health condition worsens
Bhubaneswar (11/10/2025): The health condition of Odia music composer Abhijit Majumdar (54) worsened at AIIMS Bhubaneswar on Saturday. Having multiple comorbid conditions (Hypertension, Hypothyroidism, chronic liver disease), Abhijit was admitted to AIIMS emergency on 4th September 10 am in a comatose state, on ventilator support.He was shifted to Medical ICU for further management. On evaluation, he was found to have: Osmotic Demyelination Syndrome (both pontine and extrapontine), Bilateral Pneumonia (HAP), Blood stream infection (MDRO- Acinetobacter), Chronic liver disease, Dyselectrolytemia (hypokalaemia, hypophosphatemia, hypomagnesemia), Nutritional deficiency (Vitamin D, Folic acid) He is comatose at present, with GCS- E1, VT, M2.His repeat MRI brain done on 18th September, reveals no improvement from previous radiological findings.Percutaneous tracheostomy was done on 9th September in view of prolonged mechanical ventilation.He was shifted to Medicine ward (E6- Isolation Room- Bed no 29) for continuation of his care from Medical ICU on 25th September after being weaned off from mechanical ventilation and resolution of his blood stream infection and pneumonia.His renal function, and liver function tests are normal.However, there is no improvement of his neurological status., and he is in persistently in comatose condition.Over last 24 hours his condition has worsened, requiring mechanical ventilation support (progressive worsening of neurological condition and new onset infection), and vasopressors to maintain his haemodynamics.He was shifted to medical ICU again today morning as he is requiring more intensive care and monitoring.
