Cyclone ‘Montha’ to hit land on night of October 28; Odisha braces for heavy rain and strong winds
Bhubaneswar(25/10/2025): Cyclone ‘Montha’ is expected to make landfall between the evening and late night of October 28, crossing the coast near Kakinada, between Kalingapatnam and Machilipatnam along the Andhra Pradesh coastline. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), wind speeds are likely to range between 90 and 100 km/h, with gusts reaching up to 110 km/h during landfall. Under the influence of the cyclone, Odisha is likely to experience widespread rainfall accompanied by strong winds. On October 28, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in many parts of the state, with a few areas likely to receive extremely heavy rainfall. A Red Warning has been issued for the districts of Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Malkangiri, and Koraput, while Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Khordha, and Puri are under an Orange Alert. On October 29, heavy to very heavy rainfall may continue in some regions, with wind speeds of 60–70 km/h and gusts up to 80 km/h.
