TPSODL gears up for Cyclone ‘Montha’ with robust preparedness plan

Berhampur(25/10/2025): With Cyclone Montha building over the Bay of Bengal, TP Southern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPSODL) has rolled out an extensive preparedness and response plan to ensure continuity of power supply and safety of consumers across southern Odisha.
The company has activated its comprehensive Business Continuity and Disaster Management Plan (BCDMP), reinforcing coordination mechanisms and emergency readiness in collaboration with state authorities and disaster management agencies. As part of its proactive measures, TPSODL has completed preventive maintenance at both primary and distribution substations, while securing critical spare parts, transformers, switchgear, poles, and conductors for emergency deployment.
Specialized quick-response teams have been positioned across all divisions to handle power restoration swiftly in case of disruption.
The company has also conducted mock drills to assess field readiness and inter-departmental coordination. To maintain real-time monitoring and seamless power management, TPSODL has established a 24×7 Centralised Power System Control Centre (PSCC) at Berhampur for continuous operation and monitoring of 33 kV feeders, primary substations, and 11 kV networks.
In addition, Decentralised Area Power System Control Centres (APSCCs) at Jeypore, Rayagada, and Bhanjanagar are fully functional for localized 11 kV feeder control and field coordination.
The company has ensured 24×7 power backup at these control centres for uninterrupted supervision during the cyclone. Six mobile distribution substations have been kept on standby for rapid redeployment in affected zones.
Alongside its five main stores, TPSODL has set up 16 transit stores across the region to ensure the availability of emergency materials like LT-ABC cables, poles, and conductors at the section level.
Two tower wagons have been deployed for tree-cutting and clearing operations.
In addition, 25 ASKA lights and 19 DG sets have been positioned at each division to support restoration work during low-light conditions. The company has also implemented SMS alerts of outages across six circles to keep consumers informed about power interruptions and restoration updates in real time.
Satellite phones have been provided to the CEO, PSCC, and Circle Heads to ensure continuous communication even if conventional networks fail.
Around 5,925 personnel are on ground duty, supported by additional manpower, vehicles, and mobile units for emergency response. Amit Kumar Garg, CEO of TPSODL, said, With Cyclone Montha forming over the Bay of Bengal, our teams have activated all necessary protocols to safeguard critical infrastructure and maintain power reliability.
We are working closely with government agencies and disaster-management teams to minimize any potential damage.
Our foremost priority is the safety and service continuity for our consumers, and we urge everyone to follow the safety guidelines shared by the company. Consumers can report any electricity-related emergency through TPSODL’s 24×7 toll-free helpline numbers: 1912 or 1800-2026.
Division-wise emergency control rooms have been activated based on alerts received from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), and Feeder Champions have been assigned for all 33 kV and 11 kV critical feeders to ensure immediate maintenance and restoration action. Safety Advisory- In view of the approaching cyclone, TPSODL advises the public to avoid touching any wires or plumbing during lightning, as they may conduct electricity, do not take shelter under trees or temporary structures during strong winds or heavy rain, refrain from touching electrical installations with wet hands or without insulated gear, ensure that children stay away from flooded areas and storm drains after rainfall. Through this structured and multi-layered preparedness approach, TPSODL remains committed to ensuring uninterrupted service, minimizing cyclone-related risks, and standing by the people of southern Odisha during this critical period.
