
Odisha STA bans illegal modifications in vehicles
Bhubaneswar (17/09/2025): The Odisha State Transport Authority (STA) has issued a circular imposing ban on illegal modifications in vehicles, particularly those being converted into DJ vehicles.The STA has warned of strict action against the violators. The move comes after several accidents involving unsafe DJ vehicles, which often involve unauthorised structural changes, oversized sound systems, lights, and music, were reported. According to a circular issued by the STA, any unauthorised altercation to the structure of a vehicle, such as changes in height, length or width, will invite penalties under the Motor Vehicles Act.Fitness and registration certificates of such vehicles will be cancelled under Sections 53 and 56 (A) of the Act. According to the STA, there is no provision for "DJ vehicles" under the Motor Vehicles Act.Use of vehicles with illegal sound systems, amplifiers, laser lights or neon fittings violates safety norms.The STA has decided to conduct strict inspections, especially during nights and festive seasons.Citizens hiring such vehicles have been advised to verify whether the vehicle is registered and complies with safety rules.
